The former Colombian ambassador in Washington, Francisco Santos, is of the opinion that the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega will negotiate the freedom of Monsignor Rolando Álvarez. «They will release him in exchange for something that the dictator Ortega will ask for»he assured.
The Nicaraguan justice system, controlled by the Ortega regime, sentenced the priest to 26 years in prison after accusing him of treason, for refusing to be exiled in February of this year.

Álvarez is considered a critical voice in the country, firm and belligerent against the excesses of the Ortega dictatorship. For this reason, the regime has declared it its main enemy. After his imprisonment, the dictatorship intensified the persecution against the Catholic Church, its members and its followers.
Will Lula fail again?
According to Francisco Santos, the president of Brazil, Luis Ignacio Lula Da Silva, wants to leave a legacy by becoming the mediator who achieves the freedom of the religious and builds the bridge between the Vatican and the dictator. But he recalled that he failed before, when he wanted to wash the face of the autocrat of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
The Brazilian president pointed out, after his visit to the Vatican, that it was a mistake of the dictator Ortega to imprison Monsignor Rolando Álvarez. In addition, he said that he would mediate before him to achieve his freedom and even recommended that the regime apologize for these actions against the Catholic Church.

At the same time, its representation in the OAS promotes the signing of a resolution complacent with the Ortega regime, which has caused discomfort in the corridors of the hemispheric organization that has stood up to the Sandinista government with strong resolutions in the past.
Nicaragua will fare worse outside the OAS
In another order, Santos did not rule out stronger future sanctions, even against the Nicaraguan Army, one of the vital supports of the regime’s repression. He criticized the fact that the president of the United States, Joe Biden, sometimes has «soft positions» against dictators. He assured that he even perceives himself as complacent.
In this regard, he added that more sanctions await the regime, as a measure and actions of pressure against Ortega and his circle, especially in the coming months, which will consummate its own exit from the organization of the Americas.
He recalled that Ortega does not care about the OAS resolutions, his only interest is to retain power, even if it is based on the constant violation of human rights, curtailing public liberties and committing crimes against those who fight to preserve freedom and democracy.
