Francisco Arias Cárdenas, Venezuelan government ambassador to Mexico, said that “the entire electoral process, including legal audits, which are pending, must take place without any desire for revenge, with mutual respect.”
He former governor Zulia state representative Francisco Arias Cárdenas asked the National Electoral Council (CNE) to show the electoral records and carry out an “unobjectionable” audit to confirm that of President Nicolás Maduro.
In a letter published on August 6, he stressed that it is urgent to apply the electoral law to confirm with unobjectionable minutes and audits the victory declared by the CNE by Maduro. Cárdenas acknowledged that the government must change its discourse and practice and also strive to improve the conditions of Venezuelans.
“In government we are obliged to review ourselves and change profoundly, in discourse and in practice, towards the commitment we have with our people who suffer within the country and those who emigrate. The duty to strive so that our people feel and see in their daily lives the changes necessary for better conditions; the duty to achieve successes in all areas: spiritually, materially, personally and in the family,” said the former governor.
The former Chavista official referred to the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and advised the organization to evaluate what happened in the electoral contest of July 28 for political purposes. He said that it is necessary to advance in the democratization and effectiveness of the structure.
He recommended that the party make itself more horizontal and participatory. “It is from there that the first evaluation of what happened on July 28 should come out, from constructive and respectful discussions and debates,” he said.
“The resolution of differences through dialogue and agreement, while respecting the ways of thinking of others, is an achievement of human beings, possibly the most sublime and destructive kind of wonder of creation,” he said in the letter.
He added that “the referee cannot irresponsibly promote or allow a fight between players. Now there is the VAR, ways of auditing and reviewing that are irrefutable.”
He pointed out that “we should not be dismantling the alleged lies of the results presented by the opposition, claiming to be the winner, but rather we should all have, as in previous processes, the map by voting centers, by tables, by municipalities by state, issued officially by the CNE, so that those who do not agree can present their complaints and claims through the established legal channels.”
He said that “the entire electoral process, including the pending legal audits, must take place without any desire for revenge, with mutual respect.”
