Former baseball player recently inducted into the Nicaraguan Hall of Fame dies

Former baseball player Carlos ‘Calín’ Rosales, one of the best right fielders born in Nicaragua, died at the age of 79, five months after his induction into the Nicaraguan Sports Hall of Fame, sports sources reported this Friday.

“We regret the sensitive death of the Boer icon and star player,” said the Boer club, the most followed in Nicaragua and in which “Calin” Rosales played most of his career.

Rosales died last night in Managua due to a “cerebral disease”, according to his relatives.

The former baseball player, who played between 1970 and 1985, in addition to being considered one of the best outfielders in Nicaraguan history, became legendary in Nicaraguan baseball for the power and accuracy of his left arm, which prevented runners from taking extra bases regardless of its location.

Rosales was a member of the historic Nicaraguan team that beat Cuba 2-0 in the 1972 World Series, when the island, whose successes earned it a reputation as invincible, finished on top of the podium, with the Nicaraguan team in first place. third position, behind the United States.

In addition to Bóer, the legendary outfielder belonged to the Five Star team, which was characterized by selecting the best players in the country, as well as in Chinandega, Ifagán and San Fernando.

After retiring from baseball, Rosales worked as a watchmaker and established a store in the Oriental Market of Managua, the largest in Central America, where he served until the last years of his life.

Condolences for the former baseball player abounded, in a country of 6.6 million inhabitants, where the favorite sport is baseball, followed by boxing.
