Santo Domingo-Former baseball player Miguel Tejada, through his lawyer, filed a Habeas Corpus claiming that his imprisonment is illegal after being sentenced to six months in prison for issuing checks without funds for a debt of more than RD $9 million to Henry Soto.
The jurist José Hopoelman, the former player’s lawyer, said that he filed the action because the Second Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice issued a resolution establishing the suspension of the execution of the sentence that sends the defendant Tejada to prison.
The High Court issued the suspension due to the fact that the defense appealed in review of said sentence. Meanwhile, a judge of the Fourth Criminal Chamber of the National District, He will hear today at 2:00 in the afternoon a writ of habeas corpus to obtain his freedom.

Miguel Tejadaa former Major League player, was detained by the authorities on November 17 at the Las Américas International Airport, while trying to leave the country despite being sentenced to six months in prison.
According to the driving resolution, Tejada is accused of violating article 66 of Law 28-59 on Checks, to the detriment of Henry Rafael Soto Lara.
Tejada’s lawyers appealed the court’s decision in October 2020, but the Second Criminal Chamber of the National District Court of Appeals rejected it.
