The Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivares, stated that the labor formality is key to guaranteeing worker protection against accidents and occupational diseases, by leading this Saturday the First Provincial Congress for the Prevention of Occupational Risksheld in the province of La Vega.
During the congress, organized by the Dominican Institute for the Prevention and Protection of Occupational Risks (Idoppril) and the Chamber of Commerce and Production of La Vega, Olivares stressed the importance of formal job as a way to ensure the rights and well-being of employees.
“From the moment a worker takes his right foot out of the door of his house and steps onto the sidewalk, he is already protected against a work accident. That is the importance of formality and decent job“said the minister.
The official explained that the dominican system of occupational risks offers immediate coverage against any eventuality, and stressed that the labor formalization It benefits both the employee and the employer.
“If the worker is formalized, the employer only has to worry about his recoverybecause the rest is taken care of by Idoppril“Olivares emphasized.
Likewise, he recognized the efforts of the President Luis Abinader for increasing minimum wages without union conflicts, preserving the job stability in the country.
“In the Dominican Republic there has not been a general strike for more than 40 years. This shows that we are a country with dialogue and collective consciousness,” he said.
Prevention culture
On his side, the executive director of the IdopprilDr. Agustín Burgos, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting a prevention culture and occupational health through training, advice and preventive programs.
“The employee has the peace of mind of knowing that the Idoppril is present to protect you in case of illness or work accident. Employers, for their part, contribute 100% of the policy that guarantees that security”, Burgos pointed out.
The owner of the Idoppril He also highlighted the launch of the Management System of Prevention, a tool that seeks to improve productivity, reduce accidents and strengthen security in work spaces.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatónvalued the role of Idoppril in building safer and more sustainable labor relations.
