News Colombia.
Following the lifting of the national strike, Colombian truckers and transporters apologized to the Colombian people for the damage caused.
The strike, motivated by the rise in the price of diesel fuel, partially paralyzed trade and mobility in several cities, generating an impact at a national level.
However, the transporters explained that they had no other option to be heard and address the crisis that the sector was facing due to the increase in the cost of diesel.
The strike began in response to the national government’s proposal to increase the price of diesel fuel by $1.904 per gallon, which transporters described as unsustainable.
Through days of protest and intense negotiations, the union managed to reach an agreement with the government, which finally allowed the strike to be lifted.
Agreement between transporters and the Government
The final agreement provides for a reduction of the increase to $800 per gallon, which will be applied in two phases. The first of $400 will take effect immediately after the publication of the resolution, while the other $400 will be implemented as of December 1 of this year.
In public statements, the leaders of the sector offered apologies for the inconvenience caused, stating: “We want to apologize to the Colombian people, but many times we have to resort to these measures to be seen in our scourges.”
They stressed that such protests are necessary when there are no viable solutions to ensure the sustainability of their economic activity.
The national government, for its part, stressed that dialogue allowed reaching a solution that benefits both transporters and the country’s economic stability, reaffirming that it is possible to resolve differences through negotiation and not through extreme measures.
