Forest fires do not have when to end in the Cusco region. Recently, two of these events claimed the life of a young student in the province of La Convención and destroyed an entire reserve of vicuñas in the province of Chumbivilcas.
The first of the accidents was registered in the sector called Naranjal, belonging to the Inkawasi district, in the Cusco province of La Convención, where Beder Alarcón Aguilar (20), a native of Andahuaylas (Apurímac) died as a result of the fire.
They were the inhabitants of the area, who discovered the body of the young man in the middle of a ravine, at the time of discovery the remains were still on fire.
It was learned that the victim had gone out to fight the fire along with other community members, in view of the fact that the fire was approaching some homesBeder would have been surrounded and was unable to escape.
TRAGEDY IN VICUÑAS RESERVE
Almost at the same time, the inhabitants of the province of Chumbivilcas notified the authorities about a gigantic forest fire. in the Pullpuri Uscamarca peasant community, belonging to the district of Santo Tomás.
In the place the flames began near the area known as Qenqo, from where the fire spread rapidly due to the large amount of combustible material and strong winds.
The authorities in the area have mentioned that this fire destroyed an entire reserve of vicuñas, ccalculating losses in more than 400 species, so they ask for support from the authorities to mitigate all the damage.
In communication with Correo, the chief of the IX Cusco Fire Department Command, Brigadier CBP José Arellanopointed out that both fires have already been controlled and are in the process of being extinguishedcalling on the population to avoid burning crop fields.
“There are already more than 550 forest fires so far this year, This season has been terrible for everyone, we ask the residents and the authorities to reflect, more awareness work is needed for all those involved, forest fires not only destroy flora and fauna, they also take human lives”, sentenced.
