The National Emergency Office of the Ministry of the Interior (Onemi) made an assessment this Friday of the forest fires in the country. The agency reported in a statement that there is one on the way, 20 in combat, 72 controlled and 19 controlled.
Onemi also indicated that there are eight red alerts and five yellow alerts for forest fires. In turn, there are five preventive early alerts due to the threat of forest disasters.
Among the relevant fires, Onemi highlighted the one that affects Nacimiento and Santa Juana, in the Biobío Region. The incident is in combat and has consumed an area of 4,123 hectares.
The agency also highlighted the fire that affects the Viña del Mar commune, in the Valparaíso Region. The incident is under control and consumed an area of 111 hectares.
“2 deaths are reported, 441 injured, 107 work victims and 371 houses with damages under evaluation. 37 people remain sheltered in the O’Higgins Hotel, the Guillermo Rivera High School is operating for the food service by Junaeb and it was enabled the Colegio República de Ecuador as a collection center,” Onemi said about that incident.
