Dozens of people marched today in Cusco to demand action from the central government to stop the forest fires that have consumed forests in the Imperial City and dozens of hectares in different parts of the country.

The protesters marched through the main streets and avenues of the city center, culminating in a sit-in at the Main Square.
According to the National Forest and Wildlife Service (Serfor), in the last 24 hours, from September 14 to 15, 91 forest fires have been recorded nationwide.
Affected by the fires
Ten people, mostly elderly, died due to forest fires in different regions of Peru. Also, There are 96 injured and 1,876 affected.
So far in 2024, 222 forest fires have been recorded in recent weeks nationwide. In addition, 152 have been extinguished and 19 have been controlled, according to information from the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci).
The regions most affected by forest fires are The Amazon, Ancash, Apurimac, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huancavelica, La Libertad, Huanuco, Mother of God, Pasco, Piura, Tumbes, San Martin and Ucayali.
