He National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) has issued a red alert for the area of Chillán and Chillán Viejo due to a forest fire that has affected the area since Wednesday night.
Besides, the Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) has issued a meteorological alert for extreme high temperatures in seven regions of the center and south of the country. Among them, the Ñuble Region is in an extreme event alarm due to the high temperatures that will be recorded in the valley and the foothills.
Senapred reported more than 100 homes affected by forest fires in the Ñuble Region and the Biobío Region. In the Ñuble Region, seven affected houses were reported in Quilmo, 30 in Quillón and 30 in Coelemu. In the Biobío Region, 11 houses affected in Cortijo, 17 in Los Laureles, 2 in Yumbel and 10 in Santa Juana and Nacimiento.
The maximum temperatures are expected for Friday with a maximum of 42° and a decrease for Saturday with up to 37°. The areas affected by the meteorological alert include the coastal range, valley and foothills of the Metropolitan Region, O’Higgins, Maule, Ñuble, Biobío, La Araucanía and Los Ríos.
In addition to the meteorological alert, an agrometeorological warning is also in force for extreme high temperatures in the regions of Valparaíso and Los Ríos.
The DMC provides an updated forecast for each region of the country on its website. However, it is important to mention that forest fires can have serious consequences for health and the environment, and the population is advised to exercise caution and follow the recommendations of the authorities in case of emergency.
