MIAMI, United States. — Authorities of the municipality of Los Palacios, in the province of Pinar del Río, reported this Thursday about a forest fire that has affected the vicinity of La Güira National Park since last week.
The Cuban News Agency (ACN) indicated that in the area of the accident there are forces of the Ranger Corps, firefighters and workers from the agricultural sector. The objective is to contain the flames in time to avoid further damage to the flora and fauna of the place.
Alexander Pereda, head of the Fire Department in Pinar del Río, told the official media that since last Friday they have been working to contain the flames and that they are currently working on the eastern front of the fire to prevent its advance to other areas. .
According to the report of the ACNthe extinction forces have tank cars and mechanized means to fight the fire, which covers around 220 hectares of humid tropical forests.
