The Municipality of Paillaco reported that 250 hectares have been consumed by the forest fire that affects the area.
The mayor of the commune, Miguel Carrascostressed that “it was possible to contain the main front on the Los Guindos route (…) it was a complex night, volunteer firefighters, Conaf and Arauco brigade members, police officers and municipal personnel were working collaboratively. A massive evacuation was carried out and so far there would be no victims.”
Due to the above, Onemi activated the SAE alert to evacuate nearby areas such as Valdivia. During the night, the red alert was extended to the area of the fire in the commune of Los Guindos, which was already reaching several houses.
“With the extension of this Red Alert, all necessary and available resources will be mobilized, in additional support to what has already been deployed by CONAF, Firefighters and the National System for Disaster Prevention and Response (Sinapred),” said Onemi.
