Agents from the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) seized more than two kilograms of cocaine at the Punta Cana International Airport, La Altagracia province.
The agents and soldiers supported by canine units, in the midst of inspection work, observed through the X-ray machine, suspicious images on one of the bags, and proceeded to apply the action protocol.
Following the prosecutor’s instructions, the suitcase was opened, and a package (in the form of a sheet) was found camouflaged inside the luggage, weighing approximately 2.9 kilograms (two kilograms and 950 grams), presumably of cocaine.
In this case, the authorities arrested a 22-year-old man (a Latvian citizen) who was traveling to Frankfurt, Germany, from the Punta Cana terminal. The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the DNCD are deepening their investigations to determine if there are others involved in the failed operation.
