Foreign spending in Brazil to reach R$26 billion in 2024

Foreign tourists brought in more than R$26 billion in Brazil from January to August this year. This is the highest figure in the last 29 years for the period and is around 10% higher than that recorded in the first eight months of 2023. In August alone, visitors from other countries injected more than R$3 billion into Brazil. The data was released this Wednesday (25) by the Central Bank.Foreign spending in Brazil to reach R$26 billion in 2024

In the first eight months of the year, Brazil received more than 4.45 million international tourists, an increase of 10.7% compared to the same period in 2023 and 1% higher than the amount recorded from January to August 2019 (43.3 thousand more arrivals), even before the covid-19 pandemic.

In August of this year alone, 417.9 thousand international travelers visited Brazilian cities, a number 14.5% higher than in the same month in 2023.

Tourism Minister Celso Sabino says the government wants to attract more international visitors by working on air connectivity and the tourist infrastructure of destinations. “The growth in this number is also due to the strengthening of international promotion actions. We have been working to increasingly show the world that Brazil is a safe country that brings together natural beauty, culture and gastronomy in one place,” he said in a statement.

The federal government’s goal, through the National Tourism Plan (PNT) 2024-2027, is to make Brazil the largest recipient of tourists in South America by 2027. The document sets the objective of reaching 8.1 million international visitors per year in Brazilian cities and generating US$ 8.1 billion in revenue in the period.
