Foreign Ministry: Russian invasion of Ukraine is "clearly violative" of international law

cromo

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement this Thursday after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, describing the military actions as “clearly in violation of the purposes and principles” of the Charter of the United Nationsdating from 1945.

The statement refers to article 2 of the Charter, which raises the Refrain from threatening or using force against the territorial integrity or political independence of a State, or any action that goes against the purposes of the UN. In addition, it states that the member countries will settle their international disputes by peaceful means, so that peace, international security and justice are not endangered.

the ministry described the principles as “notoriously violated” after Thursday’s attack and reiterated his request for respect for “the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine”, just like i did this wednesday after the recognition of two pro-Russian separatist territories in Ukrainian territory, Donetsk and Lugansk.

The Foreign Ministry concludes by explaining that Uruguay “reiterates its adherence to the strict application of the norms of international law and renews its call to the parties to return to the path of negotiations“, calling on nations to comply with the 2014 Minsk agreements and resolve the conflict through diplomatic channels.
