The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the request for three representatives of the Organization of American States (OAS) to be present in the debate on the vacancy motion against President Pedro Castillo responds to the invitation of the Peruvian Government.
In a statement, he said that on March 23, he transferred to the Presidency of Congress a communication from the OAS General Secretariatwhich requests that the required facilities be provided so that three senior officials of said international organization can be present at the Plenary.
“This request responds to an invitation made by the Government of Peru, convinced that the presence of the OAS during the aforementioned debate will contribute to transparency at the national and regional levels of this important procedure for the democratic governance of Peru”he expressed.

The representatives of the supranational body are Jean-Miguel Arrighisecretary of legal affairs; Maricarmen Silver, Secretary of Access to Rights and Equity; and Michelangelo TrinidadOAS representative in Peru.
Pursuant to the provisions of Article 89-A of the Rules of Procedure of Congress, the President of the Republic may personally exercise his right of defense or be assisted by a lawyer, for up to 60 minutes.
Paragraph d) states that the agreement that declares the vacancy of the Presidency of the Republic, for the reasons provided for in paragraph 2) of article 113 of the Constitution, requires a qualified vote of no less than 2/3 of the legal number of members of Congress, that is, 87 votes.
