SANTO DOMINGO.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported tonight that it has been following up on the case of a Dominican pilot detained in the Republic of Guinea since December 28, 2025, after a corporate air operation originating in Suriname.
The detained pilot was identified as Fabio Nicolás Espinal Núñez, who was arrested along with another American national, accused of airspace violation.
The Foreign Ministry specified that since the beginning of January of this year, it has been in diplomatic contact with the authorities of the Republic of Guinea through different bilateral and multilateral Dominican missions, with a view to obtaining more information and being able to provide due consular assistance to the Dominican pilot.
He specified that they have been appealing to due judicial process and respect for the human rights of citizens.
“The Foreign Ministry, through the Dominican Embassy in Morocco, has maintained communication with the pilot and his lawyers in Guinea; also with his relatives in the Dominican Republic, through the Directorate of Protection of Nationals Abroad of MIREX,” the Ministry emphasized in a brief statement.
Yesterday, the president of the National Pilots Association (ANP), Captain Eugenio Marchena, denounced both pilots were “arbitrarily” arrested in the city of Conakry, in the Republic of Guineasince the landing of the aircraft was carried out under permanent control of the air traffic services (ATC) and in strict compliance with international operational safety standards.
He understands that, if they made a mistake, the authorities of that country should have imposed an administrative sanction, such as a fine.
Espinal Núñez would have made a technical landing to refuel when he was traveling in a private aircraft transporting a family that hired him to go from Suriname to Dubai and was received by a contingent of armed soldiers.
