A plenary meeting of the Permanent Commission of the National Congress with authorities from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Electricity Administration (ANDE) and Itaipu is scheduled for Wednesday, January 11, at 10:30 a.m., in order to discuss renegotiation of Annex C of the Binational Treaty.
This meeting will take place in the session room of the Lower House (fourth floor).
As reported by the head of the bloc, Ángel Paniagua (ANR-Central), important authorities from the Foreign Ministry will be received at this meeting; the National Electricity Administration (ANDE); and Itaipu, to discuss issues related to the binational negotiation taking place around the hydroelectric plant (Brazil-Paraguay).
The parliamentarian emphasized the importance of legislators receiving first-hand information from the main actors in the process, such as Foreign Minister Julio César Arriola; the president of ANDE, Félix Sosa; and the Paraguayan head of Itaipu, Manuel María Cáceres.
He pointed out that the renegotiation of the treaty and other issues inherent to the present of the hydroelectric plant are constantly debated issues, but without much rigor or knowledge, in some cases, reported from the Chamber of Deputies.
Being correctly informed will ensure that each detail can be adequately transmitted, both to other deputies and senators, and to the entire citizenry, through the communication channels enabled, according to the congressman.
“As representatives of the people, we want to have the peace of mind that the interests of our country will be protected in this binational negotiation process. It is necessary to make it clear to the compatriots that there are no secret agreements, nor sell-outs, as some try to install”, said the President of the Permanent Commission.
Clarifying doubts about the value established for the power tariff for the year 2023 will be one of the central themes of the meeting, he finally added.
