Coromoto Godoy delivered her credential letters to the King of Spain, Felipe VI, on Wednesday May 17, with which she is accredited as ambassador to Madrid. The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry points out that one of its goals will be to strengthen diplomatic ties with Madrid
The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked the Venezuelan ambassador in Madrid, Coromoto Godoy, to strengthen diplomatic relations with Madrid “at all levels.”
According to one Press release of the Foreign Ministry, Godoy also has among its objectives to generate the conditions that are necessary to “strengthen” the consular service and “gain spaces” for diplomacy from Caracas.
Ambassador Coromoto Godoy delivered this Wednesday May 17 in the Royal Palace of Madrid their credentials to the King of Spain, Felipe VI, in a ceremony in which the diplomatic representative of Nicaragua to the Iberian nation was also present.
According to the Venezuelan Foreign Office, the recently accredited ambassador to Spain has 30 years of experience and entered the diplomatic career in 2000. Before arriving in Spain, she was in charge of the mission to India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. (2019-2022). Between 2012 and 2019, she served as Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago.

Godoy’s accreditation closes two years of disagreements, which began with the withdrawal of the then Spanish ambassador in Caracas in November 2020 in protest of that year’s parliamentary elections, which the Spanish government did not recognize when denouncing numerous irregularities.
In response, Venezuela withdrew its ambassador from Madrid and since then both countries have been represented by their respective Chargés d’Affaires.
In December 2022, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, considered that the resumption of talks between the Government and the Venezuelan opposition in Mexico represented “an objective improvement of the situation that should be supported”, and appointed ambassador to the diplomat Ramón Santos, until then Chargé d’Affaires in Caracas, in a gesture aimed at recovering the relationship.
Godoy had already delivered the style copies last January 23 before the Foreign Ministry of Spain in a ceremony held at the Palacio de Santa Cruz to the General Director of Protocol, Foreign Ministry and Orders, María Sebastián de Erice García de la Peña.
