Cuba and Chili They promised this Wednesday to promote bilateral cooperation in the economic, commercial, cultural and migratory fields after a meeting between representatives of the foreign ministries of both countries.
Chileans and Cubans held the VI Meeting of the Inter-Foreign Ministry Political Consultation Mechanism, the first since 2011. It is the first formal rapprochement between Santiago and Havana since the entry into power of Chilean President Gabriel Boric at the beginning of 2022.

The delegations were led by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Josefina Vidal Ferreiro and the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Ximena Fuentes Torrijo.
According to the statement of the cuban minrexboth parties “exchanged on regional and international challenges, agreeing on the importance of maintaining a united region.”
In addition, “they reviewed various issues of bilateral interest and identified areas with potential to advance in the strengthening of relations.”
The Chilean Foreign Ministry also reported about the meeting and valued the commitment to hold the next meeting in the course of this year, as well as the possibility of advancing towards a Memorandum of Understanding on immigration matters.
Gabriel Boric was one of the leaders who criticized last year the exclusion of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela from the Summit of the Americas held in the US city of Los Angeles.
