The chancellor of the government of Nicolás Maduro, Yván Gil, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, to expose the most “recent aggressions” against the nation encouraged – he said – by the United States, the state channel reported this Sunday. Venezuelan Television (VTV).

Gil, according to a VTV press release, assured that these “aggressions” and “violations of international law” are committed against Venezuelans and the country’s institutions, while ensuring that they have been “defeated” in a sample of “iron will to advance in peace.”

«We ratify the request to the UN and its bodies for a greater commitment to the mandate and principles embodied in the Charter of the United Nations and support for the public power of Venezuela, in the fight to defend the peace and well-being of all. Venezuelans,” added Guterres.

The meeting between both officials took place within the framework of the UN General Assembly in New York.

On September 20, President Nicolás Maduro spoke by phone with Guterres, who expressed “his concern about the post-electoral violence and accusations of human rights violations” in Venezuelan territory.

The call was at the initiative of the Venezuelan president, Guterres’ spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, specified in his daily press conference. In that call, Guterres insisted to Maduro that it is necessary to “resolve any political dispute peacefully through genuine and inclusive dialogue.”

In previous statements, Guterres has demanded that Venezuela communicate the detailed results of the electoral records of the July 28 elections, which has not happened, and he has regretted the lack of transparency of the Venezuelan authorities. However, he has also recently said that the economic sanctions imposed by the United States “do not help” to resolve the situation.
