Santo Domingo._ Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez will travel this week to New York City, United States, to participate in a meeting of the Security Council of the United Nations Organization in which they will follow up on resolution 2645 that establishes the extension of the permanence of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) and which orders that the body meet every 90 days to update the situation in that country.
In coherence with what was expressed in previous meetings of this UN body, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will once again raise the support of the Dominican Republic for what was proposed by the Secretary General of this organization, António Guterres, in the sense that while the aid for the training of the Haitian police, a robust force is necessary, capable of restoring peace and putting an end to the violence unleashed by the armed gangs, infiltrated by political and economic power.
Foreign Minister Álvarez is expected to draw attention to the serious humanitarian and insecurity situation in Haiti that keeps a large part of the population locked up in their homes without being able to access basic services such as: health, food and education.
During his participation in the meeting scheduled for this Wednesday, December 21, Minister Álvarez will be accompanied by the ambassador, permanent representative of the Dominican Republic to the UN, José Blanco.
