The Foreign Minister, Cesar Landaquestioned the decision of Congress not to authorize the trip of President Pedro Castillo to Colombia for the swearing-in of Gustavo Petro as president.
Through his Twitter account, he indicated that the country’s image abroad is once again in question and called on parliamentarians to reverse this decision to “honor the international commitments of Peru”.
“Our international image is once again called into question by not authorizing the President’s trip to the transfer of command in Colombia. I make a call to the congressmen, who on other occasions have reversed decisions to honor the international commitments of Peru”he wrote on the social network.
As recalled, the plenary session of the Congress of the Republic refused to authorize President Pedro Castillo to travel to the city of Bogotá, Colombiato participate in the presidential change of command that will take place on August 7.
With 42 votes in favor, 67 against and 5 abstentions the national representation rejected the draft legislative resolution sent by the Executive Power for the authorization of the president’s trip.
During the debate, congressmen from various benches were against giving this permission to the head of state due to the questions and investigations carried out against him for the alleged commission of various crimes.
