On Monday, during the UN Future Summit 2024 and within the framework of the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA 79) taking place in New York City, United States, the Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, held various bilateral work meetings with world personalities and leaders.
Gil held a meeting with his counterpart from the People’s Republic of China, Wanhg Yi, to strengthen ties of cooperation and brotherhood.
Venezuela and China maintain ties of mutual cooperation and to ratify these relations, recently, the National Assembly (AN) approved in second discussion the Law Approving the Agreement between the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Government of the People’s Republic of China regarding the Promotion and Protection of Investments.
The Venezuelan foreign minister also held a meeting with his counterpart from the Sultanate of Oman, Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, to attend to a busy work agenda.
On the other hand, he also held a meeting with his Colombian counterpart, Luis Gilberto Murillo, with the purpose of reviewing economic, commercial and consular relations. Both sister nations have increased agreements since the arrival of the government of President Gustavo Petro.
Likewise, he met with the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations between both nations. Through his Telegram channel, Gil stated that “during our conversation, we discussed the importance of unity and solidarity between our Caribbean countries, with the aim of promoting greater development and mutual cooperation.”
Venezuela and Cuba strengthen cooperation relations
Foreign Minister Gil held a meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodríguez, to strengthen brotherly relations.
“It is always an honor to meet with our brother, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, in multilateral spaces, where our countries play a crucial role in defending the right of peoples to self-determination and full development,” Gil said through his Telegram channel.
Zimbabwe, Eritrea and Madagascar
Gil announced working meetings with his African counterparts from Zimbabwe, Eritrea and Madagascar, to strengthen ties of friendship and bilateral cooperation for shared benefit.
The Venezuelan representative stressed that these official meetings are taking place in the context of the emerging multipolar world towards which Venezuela and the African nations are heading.
On this occasion, he spoke with the Foreign Minister of Zimbabwe, Federico Shava, with whom he reviewed the bilateral agenda in preparation for the next meeting of the Joint Commission and shared experiences in the fight against the illegal sanctions that both countries face.
He later met with Eritrea’s Foreign Minister, Osman Saleh. Eritrea is an African nation north of Ethiopia, with an area of 117,400 km² and a little over 3.3 million inhabitants. Its capital is Asmara. It was a colony of Italy from 1890 to 1941 and gained its independence in 1993, when it separated from Ethiopia.
Gil also completed the day of contacts with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar, Rafaravavitafika Rasata, with whom he emphasized the importance of exchanges between peoples.
Venezuela-Honduras
The Minister of Foreign Affairs held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Honduras, Eduardo Enrique Reina García, in the context of bilateral meetings. “During our conversation, we exchanged ideas to strengthen relations between our countries and promote integration in the region,” said Yván Gil.
