Foreign Minister Yván Gil indicated on his social networks that the meeting with the European ambassadors provides opportunities for the “full productive growth” of Venezuela

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, led a meeting on Wednesday June 15 with ambassadors and heads of mission from Spain, Germany, Italy and France in order to evaluate opportunities for energy cooperation between Venezuela and those countries of the European Union.

This was reported by the Foreign Ministry through its social networks, where it was reported that the president of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) and Minister of Petroleum, Pedro Tellechea, was present, although he did not offer further details in this regard; meeting that takes place while in the country there is a significant gasoline shortage in several states of the country.

The ambassadors of Spain and France in Venezuela, Ramón Santos and Romain Nadal; the head of mission of Germany, Stefan Dupple, and the charge d’affaires of Italy, Placido Vigo, were the diplomats present at this meeting.

A Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled that Gil spoke in recent days with the deputy secretary of the European External Action Service (EEAS) of the EU, Enrique Mora, and they discussed matters of interest between Venezuela and the community bloc.

On that occasion, both diplomats discussed a new dynamic in relations between the South American nation and the EU, highlighting the economic growth of both parties.

President Nicolás Maduro asserted last January that relations between Venezuela, the European Union and the member countries “are progressing well” and there is a “permanent dialogue” for the normalization of diplomatic relations.

A senior European Union (EU) official indicated the Friday, November 11, 2022 that it is considering asking the United States (USA) for more exemptions for European companies so that they can continue exporting oil from Venezuela, without causing any interference with the sanctions imposed by Washington.

The spokesman recalled that the EU does not have any measures against Venezuelan crude but indicated that the US does, although he stressed that there are some licenses that it has granted to various companies, including two European ones.

This in the framework of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict that keeps energy for Europe in danger. In addition, it occurs after the speech of former US President Donald Trump who assured that he expected the collapse of Venezuela to appropriate the native oil.

Although it is far from the 3.2 million barrels of oil it produced two decades ago, Venezuela’s crude supply has rebounded in recent months with the easing of financial sanctions that Washington imposed as pressure to try to force the exit of the power of the socialist president Nicolás Maduro. Today it stands at around 800,000 barrels per day, according to OPEC.

The easing includes licenses to energy companies such as the American Chevron to operate in this nation.

At the same time, European companies such as the Italian Eni or the Spanish Repsol have received the green light to work on gas projects.
