Foreign and Cuban tourists injured by traffic accident in Trinidad

Ten tourists, French and Russian, plus three Cubans suffered injuries in accident occurred when a Transgaviota bus lost control this Friday on the border between Trinidad and Cienfuegos.

The event happened in the afternoon, on the Circuito Sur highway, on the border between Trinidad and Cienfuegos, when the driver of the Transgaviota state bus lost control while trying to avoid being hit by a tanker, according to reports the local newspaper Escambray.

Three patients were reported as “code red” (rapid response system) while one of the Cubans suffered head trauma and multiple fractures in the right arm, with muscle tear and large vessel injuries that were stabilized in the Trinidadian hospital.

Other foreigners presented simple head trauma and significant bone-muscular tearing of the left hand. The rest of the cases suffered minor injuries, without danger to life, the source specifies.

The injured received medical attention, first at the General Hospital of Trinidad Tomás Carrera Galiano and then they were transferred to the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial Clinical-Surgical Teaching Hospital in Sancti Spíritus, according to the source.

The travelers were moving to Cienfuegos after an excursion to the city of Trinidad. The causes are still being investigated.
