SLP, Mexico.- Next Saturday, December 7, the exposure collective “Prohibited Art: From Cuba”, made up of a group of Cuban artists who raise their voices for the country’s freedom.
The works by Dayran Melián Castro, Edito Sánchez Santana, Manson, Natalie Infante, Yulier Rodríguez and Nando can be seen at Abuela’s Corner, located at 2705 NW 22nd Ave, Miami.
According to the exhibition’s press release, “Prohibited Art: From Cuba,” curated by Nando OBDC, features the work of artists “from Cuba’s vibrant yet restricted art scene.”
In it event Inauguration will also feature the Cuban poet and former political prisoner (imprisoned for 30 years) Ignacio Cuesta Valle, known as “Piche.”
The exhibition will also present emerging exhibitions by Alexey Camilo Merino Téllez, Fuentes Papo and El Sexto, also a former politician and poet, who will recite in public for the first time.
The group exhibition will showcase a one-piece pop-up by Degrupo, alongside performances by Cuban Mic, David Omni, Legacy, H1P3R and Omni Luis Eligio, who will bring their unique voices and energy to the stage.
The call for the inauguration urges art patrons to bring items such as artistic materials for resistance artists in Cuba, as well as medical supplies and food for political prisoners. In return, contributors will receive a raffle ticket for a special prize.
“Bring your friends and family to immerse yourself in a celebration of resistance through creativity,” the note states.
In recent months, the renowned artist Cuban Erik Ravelo inaugurated in Miami an individual exhibition dedicated to the defense of human rights, freedom, and Cuba.
It was the first individual exhibition held by the artist in the United States. Then Having joined important international campaigns for the United Nations, Amnesty International, Reporters Without Borders and Benetton, Ravelo, the only Cuban winner of the Cannes Grand Prix thanks to his campaign Unhate for Benetton, it exhibited a denunciation of human rights violations.
