For Uipba, "the Government is clear that the industry needs imported inputs"

Martín Rappallini highlighted the joint work of industrialists with the national government.

The president of the Industrial Union of the Province of Buenos Aires (Uipba), Martín Rappallini, stated that currently “The Ministry of Economy and the Secretariat of Industry are led by people very close to the industry”, and stressed that “The Government is clear that the productive sectors need imported inputs.”

“Business organizations such as Uipba and UIA, which represent Argentine industrialists, have joint and articulated work with government authorities as a banner,” Rappallini remarked to Télam, and underlined: “We do not conceive the development of our business union activity without continuous exchange with the Government.”

“Today both the Ministry of Economy and the Secretariat of Industry are led by people very close to the industry”, referring to Minister Sergio Massa and Secretary José Ignacio De Mendiguren.

“We know that we have to continue working and bringing the needs of the productive sectors closer to them to solve the difficulties we have. I believe that the Government is clear that the vast majority of the productive sectors of our industrial fabric need imported inputs”, remarked the business union leader.

He indicated that “many times due to geographical, climatic or simply scale issues, we do not have all the pieces to develop products locally.”

“And in that we are very insistent, since due to the lack of inputs, processes and production are slowed down. In turn, given the shortage of foreign currency, it is important to understand that our industry is a generator of genuine dollars. That is why we have to guarantee the dollars for production since, in many cases, they are value-added products that will later benefit our trade balance,” said Rappallini.

He also highlighted that “Both Massa and De Mendiguren understand the situation of our sector and the needs of the industry”noting that “both, together with their technical teams, are working to order the macroeconomic variables and thus make the activity viable.”

“Today we are working hard to normalize the supply of inputs and key raw materials that guarantee production,” said the head of the Uipba.

Along the same lines, the president of Argentine Industrial Parks Network, Darío Parlascinotold Télam that the management of Massa and De Mendiguren is “positive”.

“They are trying to see the reality they found and listening to the different sectors,” Parlascino said.

He indicated that “Businessmen want it to be analyzed sector by sector, since the problem is different.”

“We need a strong and orderly State. If the industry and production are listened to and accompanied by the State, we are on the way to growth yes or yes”, said Parlascino, who stressed that “if there is investment, there is employment; if there is employment, there is consumption. If there is consumption, everything walks within a virtuous circle. I hope all the actors realize this.”

Regarding the present of the sector, Rappallini stressed that “the industry has undoubtedly recovered its activity in the post-pandemic”, and specified that “during June 2022 (latest available data), the industrial activity of Buenos Aires expanded 11.2% year-on-year, continuing the positive dynamics of recent months.”

“All the productive sectors are experiencing difficulties due to the economic situation and shortage of foreign currency, but working day by day to sustain production and above all jobs,” said the head of Uipba.

On your side, Parlascino added that “there are industrial sectors that are working at 80% of their productive capacity, others a little below”and stressed that “there is a lot of movement as a result of the fact that many multinationals and their subsidiaries want to invest the pesos they have, and also apply the logic of investing in times of crisis.”

In this context, in order to continue debating these issues of interest to industrialists, the Uipba together with Red Parques Industriales and the Association of Industrialists of Buenos Aires (Adiba) will once again carry out We are Industry 2022 in face-to-face format, the event of the industrial sector and industrial parks that will be held on October 13 and 14 at the Costa Salguero Center in the city of Buenos Aires.

We are Industry will be made up of the 4th SME Industrial Congress, the 8th Exhibition of Industrial Parks (Epiba) 2022 and the 5th International Congress of Industry 4.0.
