This Saturday, and for the first time in Caracas, the Venezuelan people accompanied the Russian diplomatic representation in the ceremonial march of the Immortal Regiment, an activity that commemorates the Victory Day of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany.
From the Paseo Los Próceres in the capital, the Russian ambassador in Venezuela, Sergey Melik-Baghdasarovstated: “We are in Caracas celebrating this beautiful party with our Venezuelan brothers, a victory party, a party for the entire community for our future, to remember our ancestors who fell in the fight against Nazism”
He recalled that his country and the allied nations promoted a resolution in the United Nations Organization (UN) in the General Assembly to not allow the glorification of fascism, Nazism, racism and other types of xenophobia and intolerance.
“We are in Caracas celebrating this beautiful party with our Venezuelan brothers, a victory party, a party for the entire community for our future, to remember our ancestors who fell in the fight against Nazism,” Mélik-Bagdasárov stressed.
For her part, the deputy minister for Europe, Daniela Rodriguezhighlighted: “More than 20 million people died in this war, which are the Red Army fighters who gave victory, and it is those people that we commemorate today.”
He asserted that the people have had to fight against fascism at different times in revolutionary history.
Russia commemorates Victory Day on May 9 every year, to celebrate the Soviet Union’s triumph over Nazi Germany in 1945.
