GCIAMT is the Ibero-American Cooperative Group of Transfusion Medicine; the most important conglomerate of professionals in the specialty throughout the continent.
Every 2 years this organization holds a congress where the knowledge of all associated members is updated and exchanged; (blood banks; Hemotherapy centers); in Medellin Colombia, culminated the 12th. congress of this type, the one that could not be held in 2019 due to the pandemic. Uruguay was represented by the Blood Center, which was able to share part of the experience through four talks, conferences, and the exhibition of scientific works by our technicians.
Once again, we have the enormous satisfaction of knowing how much the path traveled by this public institution of our country has influenced Transfusion Medicine in the region, and how much must be learned to modify structures and strategies that adapt to current times. Not only does it return with the satisfaction of having the certainty that the path chosen is the correct one, but also, we are proud that Uruguay for the first time obtains the presidency and secretariat until the year 2024 of this important international organization.
