For the first time an Indian Foreign Minister will visit Paraguay

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of India, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, will pay a visit to the Republic of Paraguay this Monday, August 22.

This will be the first visit of an Indian Foreign Minister to the country, which is celebrated within the framework of the 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which began on September 13, 1961.

The Indian minister will be received in audience by the President of the Republic of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Julio César Arriola.

The private meeting of Foreign Minister Julio César Arriola with his Indian counterpart is scheduled for 8:30 on Monday. The extended meeting with the delegations of both countries will take place immediately; At the end of it, both Foreign Ministers will give a statement to the press. All these activities will be carried out at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The courtesy greeting to President Mario Abdo Benítez is scheduled for 10:00, at the Palacio de López. Also, during this visit, the inauguration of the Embassy of India in Paraguay is planned, the first since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The agenda that will be addressed with the Indian minister includes issues of bilateral interest at the political, economic and cultural levels, including development cooperation. In addition, regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest will be discussed.

Dr. S. Jaishankar’s trip to Paraguay will contribute to reinforcing friendly and cooperative relations between both countries and will broaden and deepen ties with a view to joint and coordinated work for the benefit of both countries.
