He National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (Senasa) confirmed this Tuesday the first positive case of bird flu highly pathogenic (HPAI) H5 in poultry in the province of Black river with which the country temporarily loses its disease-free status and self-suspends the export of poultry products in compliance with international standards, as officially reported.
In a statement, the health entity indicated that “poultry production for consumption in the country will continue to develop normally since the HPAI is not transmitted by the consumption of chicken meat and eggs, while those refrigerators that export, will be able to commercialize their products in the internal market”.
Senasa explained that “the positive case comes from a broiler chicken establishment located in the town of Mainque, province of Río Negro, south of the Patagonian zoophytosanitary barrier, in an area of low poultry density.
The agency ordered “to carry out the corresponding containment measuresestablished in the avian influenza contingency manual, in order to prevent the spread of the disease in other establishments that produce birds destined for the commercial circuit”.
