Since 2016, the National Electoral Institute (INE) has delivered 1.6 million credentials to vote abroad, the vast majority to fellow citizens residing in the United States and a much smaller percentage in Canada, Germany and France.
The general council determined last Friday that Mexicans residing abroad will not vote in the judicial election; However, the updating of this registry must continue based on requests made – so far – in more than 150 cities around the world, as it is the basis for other elections.
The exact number of licenses issued is one million 685 thousand 402, reported the executive directorate of the Federal Voter Registry, according to the most recent cut, of which one million 636 thousand 634 thousand were issued in consulates in the United States.
Although the INE has received, in almost nine years, 2 million 146 thousand applications for voting credentials, some are still under review; Almost all the requests were received in the United States and in a quantity that does not exceed 20 thousand in Canada, and even further away are the numbers of Mexicans residing in Spain, Germany and France.
The three cities in the United States with the most registrations are Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago, and outside this nation Montreal, Madrid and Paris.
