This year, public education will have a budget of 465,871,888,417 pesos, of which 196,205,603,873 will correspond to the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), according to the publication of the Expenditure Budget of the Federation (PEF).
In the sector there are the programs and directions of the SEP; public universities and high schools, both autonomous and those that depend on the secretariat, including the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the National Polytechnic Institute and the National Pedagogical University; as well as scholarship programs, including the universal Rita Cetina basic education scholarships and the Benito Juárez upper secondary education scholarships.
The Elisa Acuña scholarship program will have 1,688,553,133 pesos; It is awarded to high school students in the modalities of dual education, professional practices and social service; Its monthly amount is 2 thousand pesos.
In 2024, 11,101 of these supports were granted, an increase of 979 compared to the previous year (10,122), according to official data. For the 2023-2024 school year, enrollment was 5 million 508 thousand 572 students.
The Benito Juárez Universal Higher Secondary Education Scholarship is also awarded to high school students. This year it will have resources of 40,922,380,567 pesos, and seeks to reach 4,224,381 public school students.
Meanwhile, 29 million 879 thousand 397 pesos will be allocated for the Attention of Public Higher Secondary Education Schools with students with disabilities.
The National Institute for Adult Education will have 1,861,118,584 pesos available, and during this six-year term it will seek to educate 500,000 people to read and write. In January and November 2024, nearly 30,000 people learned to read and write, while 210,684 young people and adults completed primary school and 330,856 completed secondary school.
The System Unit for the Career of Teachers will have 1,085,403,670 pesos. This body is within the negotiations between the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) and the SEP, since the teaching profession is requesting its restructuring.
Meanwhile, the National Pedagogical University, an institution that seeks to be autonomous, will have 1,114,861,507 pesos. It has nearly 70 thousand undergraduate and graduate students and its academic staff is more than 4 thousand professors.
