For lack of personnel, funeral home resort to prisoners for various tasks

Madrid/Funeral funeral cars, coffins of bad quality, shortage of flowers to make crowns and lack of labor for maintenance and cleaning of the facilities are the scenarios that draw the disaster of the funeral services in the blind of Ávila. It is the director of Communal Services of the Province, Luis Alberto Pérez Olivaresthe one that provides the newspaper to the newspaper Invaderin a note published on Monday.

One of the “population claims” raised by the official newspaper is the poor quality of the coffins. The provincial director of communals defends himself explaining that they have a factory to respond to the demand for the 21 existing funeral home and that “works well”, but that the same does not happen with the raw material.

“Contracts are established with the sawmills of the Forestry Company, but the quality of the wood is bad, and although it is about making a selection within what is available, what is desired is not always achieved,” laments the official. Before, he says, “they had the allocation of a type of pressed cardboard that allowed the coffins to give greater consistency, but years ago it is not received.” Thus, they make “boxes of different formats with a resistant termination, but it is not possible to guarantee better appearance, nor the glass for each one, so only a small square of glass is used in the funeral home”.

In addition, they lack personnel “due to low wages”, which forces them to go to carpenters and dockers “of the task trust”, that is, to prisoners.

There is a lack of personnel because “salaries are very low and are unattractive”

The lack of labor is worrying throughout the area. The entire province has a total of 158 workers in the necrological services, which are distributed by the “Cleaning of the Centers, Resto and Painting, in addition to the work of graves and the coordination”.

Pérez Olivares says it without ambiguity: “There is a lack of personnel for the cleaning of funerals and the task has to be assumed by the coordinators and the drivers themselves, since because they are a budgeted entity, the wages are very low and are unattractive ” Therefore, it calls the population “with properties in the cemetery to go at least once a month to maintain these areas and not carefree their cleaning.”

Another problem that afflicts this service is the lack of funeral cars. Two Avileños municipalities, Baraguá and Venezuela, for example, do not have any to serve them. The vehicles that should do so are part of those who are standing in the province, which are the majority: 11 of 19. Only eight are working, the official requires.

Three others are “proposed to loss”, that is, for the scrapping, and the others, repairing the Comprehensive Automotive Services Company (EISA). Only two cars are new, received last year, says Pérez Olivares, “but the remaining ones are old with numerous problems.”

“The possibility of two MSMEs that have the conditions assume the repair of those cars,”

The use of new cars is reserved for the “transfers of the deceased to other provinces, a fact that happens frequently, given the characteristics of the inhabitants of the territory” and the foreign tourists who die in the northern fall.

The text of the official newspaper, which acknowledges that in the blind of Ávila “there are few pitfalls that must “The possibility that two MSMEs that have the conditions assume the repair of those cars that offer a high sensitivity service for the population. ”

However, the plan seems to be just that, a possibility. For what the manager tells Invader“There is enabled a command post in the Provincial Community Directorate and from there the service is monitored to respond to the demands of the municipalities that do not have funeral cars, as well as some breakage that occurs during a transfer.”

All this makes delays in the transfer of deceased, which do not seem to be solved in the short term, although Pérez Olivares ensures that one of the repaired vehicles will be allocated to Morón in the next few days.

Transportation, coffins and labor is not the only thing that lacks the dead Avileños. The crowns also scarce, of which the official holds “relatives who request a much greater amount” of the seven crowns per deceased that the Comcávila company can guarantee, which cultivates the gardens, and furniture in funeral home.

Of course, the manager grants that “going to these services represents a painful moment for people” and “should not be added another discomfort for quality inconveniences.”

It is not the first time that the precarious situation of necrological services on the island is news, from cemeteries, which become desecrated by bone thievesto the funeral cars, often reduced by lack of fuel and breakdowns.
