Five citizens were found guilty of murdering a family in January 2020, in the Chumical de Vacamonte, in West Panama.
The Oral Trial Court of the Third Judicial Circuit of Panama West, made up of judges Lania Batista (president), Alina Ubiedo (reporting judge) and Pablo Barría (third judge) unanimously declared five citizens guilty of crimes against life and personal integrity in the modality of aggravated intentional homicide, attempted aggravated intentional homicide and femicide, to the detriment of four people, including a minor.
The court’s decision was announced on the afternoon of this Tuesday, May 9, where, after analyzing seventy (70) pieces of evidence, including testimonials, expert opinions and documentaries that were presented during 15 days of hearing, added to the allegations of the intervening parties, reached the conclusion that the responsibility of each of the defendants in the act was fully established.
In this regard, the sentencing hearing was set for June 6, at 8:30 am, at the facilities of the La Chorrera Accusatory Penal System, located in Plaza La Espiga.
In this trial, the Public Ministry was represented by the prosecutors of the Homicide and Femicide Section of Panama Oeste, Sherly Barría and Paula Garcés. While for the defense of the accused participated the private technical defenders Humberto Mosquera and Adrián Calderón, and the public defenders Loriel Espino and Manuel Quintanilla.
This criminal case originated on the night of January 27, 2020, in the sector known as El Chumical, Vacamonte district, Arraiján district, when three people died and another was injured.
