The president of the Broad Front, Fernando Pereiraspoke this Monday in relation to the resignation of the undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carolina Achewho leaves his position after the scandal in which he ended up involved: WhatsApp chats would realize that I was aware that Sebastián Marset was a dangerous drug trafficker, before he was granted a passport by the government of Luis Lacalle Pou.
“When this issue is noted, no minister should remain in office. There should already be 6 or 7 resignations placed on top of the president’s table,” said the former trade unionist and now the highest representative of the broad front. And he added: “Without a doubt, the Minister of the Interior, the Undersecretary and the Minister of Foreign Relations and several members of the Police, one has already resigned, but there are others who are being investigated for the Astesiano case.”
Pereira assures that he understands that the Lacalle Pou administration “it is clear that they have had a very hard year, very negative, in terms of the economy, in terms of society, in terms of attention to poverty, in terms of having a fight against the poor who feed poor” and that there is a government “exhausted where there are ministers who must step aside or out of shame or negligence.”
In this talk with the press, Pereira added: “the Uruguayan State gave a passport to a citizen who, later, was a dangerous and heavy drug trafficker, according to the undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior who was imprisoned in Dubai for entering with a passport for Guayo false. This phrase in itself, thinks for itself, people think for themselves. No Uruguayan, Uruguayan sensible at his level of sensibility, would give that passport. And the Uruguayan government gave it”.
The president supports her
Despite the resignation, Lacalle Pou gave another boost to the former Foreign Ministry hierarch. The president told the press that he received her resignation letter and called her directly by phone. “My statements of support for her actions did not vary from what I said the other day,” he said in a clear gesture of endorsement of her actions.
As soon as Ache communicated his resignation to the Ciudadanos sector of the Colorado Party, this group proposed Nicolás Albertoni as a substitute.
At about 9:00 p.m. this Monday, he was accepted by the president, with which he becomes the new vice chancellor.
Albertoni’s academic curriculum consists of the following titles: Doctor of Political Science and International Relations, University of Southern California, Los Angeles (USA). PhD in Business Administration, Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina. Master in Economics, University of Southern California (USA). Master in Politics and International Relations, University of Southern California (USA). Master of School of Foreign Service (Latin American Studies and International Business Diplomacy), Georgetown University (USA).
