The Society of Jesus in Mexico expressed its solidarity with the miners of Sabinas, Coahuila, as well as with their families, and hoped that the 10 workers who were trapped will be rescued alive.

The congregation indicated that, for 16 years, when 65 miners were trapped in Pasta de Conchos in 2006, they have warned about the subhuman conditions of these work centers in the coal zone, without any government having taken measures so that these unfortunate events do not continue to occur.

Besides, the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate (CEM) lamented the fact. We pray for the lives of each of the trapped miners and place them under the intercession of the Virgin of Guadalupe..

Rogelio Cabrera López, president of the CEM, and Ramón Castro, general secretary of the episcopal body, stated that as a Church we offer our prayers and consolation to the families of the miners.

The Society of Jesus added that after the Pasta de Conchos accident, the relatives of the miners demanded measures of non-repetition, but their calls have not been heard. He highlighted that the Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center, one of the Jesuit works, accompanies families in their demands for justice before international bodies.
