From this Monday, September 26 to Friday, September 30, Panama will participate in the 74th session of the Regional Committee of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for the Americas and the 30th session of the Pan American Sanitary Conference, which will be held in Washington, DC, For this, the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, traveled to the United States on behalf of the National Government.
In these sessions, it is expected that on Wednesday 28, the new president of the Executive Committee of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) will be elected, in which Panama nominated the former Minister of Health, Camilo Alleyne, to direct the destinations of the international organization in the next five years.
According to Sucre, “Panama nominated Dr. Camilo Alleyne, because he has the necessary qualities for the position and we know that, if elected, he will do an extraordinary job.”
Alleyne has already explained to the member countries his vision and the priorities he proposes for the organization, emphasizing that actions must be oriented towards human beings, regardless of ideology, social class or race.
During his presentation in June, he said that if elected, his management will be characterized by ethics and transparency through a portal, in which the member countries will be able to enter and corroborate the progress in the execution of the organization’s work and budget program. .
During the week, the sessions will be addressing various topics on Public Health; how to resume the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the management of the COVID-19 pandemic, policies to strengthen national regulatory systems for medicines and other health technologies, disaster risks, cervical cancer, health in children, women and adolescent, urban health, epilepsy, genomic surveillance, which are treated by national and regional specialists and technicians.
