When he was serving as mayor of the district of Molinos, the current burgomaster of the province of Jauja, Ángel Huamán Mucha, was involved in a process for alleged embezzlement that was filed for more than 20 months in a suspicious manner. During the years 2014, 2015 and 2016, Huamán Mucha hired Octavia Santana Barreto in the secretarial area, but at the same time she held the position of treasurer. According to the tax folder, the young woman collected S / 46,650 through 37 checks that she issued without justification.

The mayor denounced this fact and in the middle of the investigation, those involved declared that it was Huamán Mucha himself who ordered them to take the money and hand it over to him. What’s more, both presented a 2017 document where the mayor signs a document agreeing to have received S/ 4,350 from Santana Barreto. From whistleblower, the burgomaster came to be investigated.

The case is in charge of the Fifth Preparatory Investigation Court and it is the prosecutor Katya Hurtado Ames who has been investigating it. What stands out is that the judge warned, in June 2022, that there was a 20-month delay in this process and requested that the case be communicated to the Internal Control Body (OCI) of the prosecution due to this suspicious delay.
