Football with a feminine touch

Football with a feminine touch

Women’s soccer is on a well-documented rise. At the elite level, the sport continues to professionalize and occupy spaces faster than initially thought.

This world sport that usually brought together men running after a ball to get it into the opponent’s goal already has women who not only cheer but also wear the sport’s clothing, run, jump and shout passes between them to achieve the goal. The last World Cup has shown female referees in final games which shows the enthusiasm that this sport generates.

One that organizations like “girls united” try to do, whose mission is that girls around the world have equal access to sport and provide them with skills and abilities that expand their opportunities to participate in education and in the economy. Now they are closing the gap between sport and education.

This organization founded by Romina Calatayud helps girls make friends and do what they like: play soccer.

Romina’s interest in soccer came from playing at a very young age. “It’s been an important part of my education and a personal passion,” he says. “Like many girls and women of my generation, I grew up playing on courts where I was often the only girl.”

Condition in which some girls find themselves in a world that continues to be misogynistic and discriminatory towards gender who can not only watch, criticize and support football made by men but can also play it.

In permanent growth

In Paraguay, a country with a long history of men’s soccer, there are already women running, jumping and shouting on the pitches and although the passion is not the same as in other places, it is growing.

The mission of this organization is about the power of sport to change gender inequality more broadly.

The organization has expanded to London from Mexico, Romina’s country with over 4,500 players and 135 coaches involved, and the emphasis is on building locally led pathways for girls to develop. Physically and socially on a planet that, due to the call seen in the recent World Cup, likes and admires soccer, which has already earned the label of being global without neglecting other sports that also work the mind and body.

With this it is shown that they are different between men and women, they can also run, jump and devise plays to win a team in a tournament.
