Food industry revenue ends 2021 up 17%

The Brazilian food industry ended 2021 with revenues of R$ 922.6 billion, a result 16.9% higher than that recorded in 2020. The amount represents 10.6% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimated for last year . According to the survey, sales in the sector in 2021 grew 3.2% and production, 1.3%. Considering only sales to the domestic market, which represent 73.5% of sales, the increase was 1.8%. Exports, which represent 26.5% of revenues, increased by 18.6% and reached a record level of US$ 45.2 billion.

“The advance of vaccination and the return of the service sector contributed decisively to the expansion of production, with positive generation of employment and income in the sector. The demand for food kept growing in Brazil and in the world, which made the companies keep production at full steam, and hiring manpower”, highlighted the executive president of Abia, João Dornellas.

The Brazilian food industry also increased the number of workers hired in 2021, 1.2% more than in 2020, totaling 1.72 million people, or 21,000 new jobs.
