Follow the departure of “historical” DC: Claudio Orrego ends his militancy, after 33 years

Just as those close to him had anticipated a few days ago, the Governor of the Metropolitan Region, Claudio Orrego, officially announced his resignation from the Christian Democracy (DC), after 33 years of militancy.

The departure of the regional governor from the DC comes after the resignation of former minister René Cortázar, who stepped aside after the mayor of La Granja, Felipe Delpin, abandoned the presidency of the Falangist store.

On that occasion, those close to Orrego pointed out that “he is disaffected from the DC” approximately two years ago, a time during which he has not participated in meetings, assemblies or official calls made by the community.

Said and done. Claudio Orrego issued a letter in which he specified that “I have had to see how our internal coexistence has gradually been destroyed.”

“Our partisan ‘community’ simply became unrecognizable and I would even say non-existent. Little remains of that fraternal spirit to which my father, Claudio Orrego Vicuña, dedicated that beautiful poem ‘Los Comrades’ in 1975. From the debate of ideas we move on to personal disqualification , from legitimate ideological differences to irreconcilable rival groups, from the necessary competition to a fratricidal war, from unfailing loyalty to disloyalty and open betrayal,” Orrego began in the letter.

“I am one of those who tried to change this reality from the different responsibilities that I had to occupy, both inside and outside the party, and I feel that we could not reverse it. By the way, I greatly respect those who continue to try to change this from within, with so much generosity as courage. I have already disaffected myself and I do not want to continue investing the energies that I have left in an environment where I no longer feel that a community spirit and minimum respect that is needed to do politics together is lived, “added the governor.

In any case, Claudio Orrego will continue in politics. “It is my vocation of the soul and to which I hope to dedicate the remaining years of my life. Our country is going through very difficult times, and they are going to demand from us a great dose of patriotism and commitment. Perhaps as great as the one we gave in times of the dictatorship,” he said.

The head of the Regional Government of the RM expressed that “this has been a sad decision, but also a very thoughtful one” and thanked “all my comrades for everything shared, everything learned, and everything done together for our Chile “.

“For me it was an honor to represent them in so many electoral battles. I sincerely hope to continue working together to enhance our country, even if I no longer wear the shirt with the red arrow,” he concluded.
