Flu vaccination was extended in the North region until January 31st. According to the Ministry of Health, the initiative considers the local epidemiological situation, available stocks and the strategies defined by the State and Municipal Health Departments.
Immunization is recommended for the entire unvaccinated population, from 6 months of age. The vaccine used is trivalent, protecting against the main viruses circulating in Brazil. The estimate is that 6.6 million people will be immunized in the North of Brazil.
Since 2023, the flu immunization strategy in the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins began to take place in the second half of the year, due to the climatic particularities of the region, which begins at this time the “Amazon Winter ”, a period of greater viral circulation and transmission of the flu.
Since the beginning of the mobilization, 2,881,622 doses of influenza vaccine have been administered in the region, achieving vaccination coverage of 39.3%.
