Florida government considers sending Cuban migrants to Delaware, Joe Biden’s state

MIAMI, United States. – The Florida government, led by Republican Ron DeSantis, plans to send Cuban migrants on buses to Delaware, the state of President Joe Biden, to deal with the sustained flow of migrants to Florida and respond to the White House immigration policy.

The plan was announced by Florida’s lieutenant governor, Cuban-American Jeanette Núñez, during an interview on the radio program “Cada Tarde”from Actualidad Radio 1040, broadcast this August 17.

“The state doesn’t have jurisdiction over immigration, but we do have jurisdiction over the well-being of our residents and our communities, and so the Governor worked with the Legislature to get funding and try to make sure that [ante] those people who come illegally, we are not going to remain with our arms crossed, we are not going to think about what we can do, and we are going to send them very frankly [sic] to the state of Delaware, to the state of the president,” Nunez said.

“What we have done and what we try to continue to do is have a position at the state level on that,” he added.

Just this week, it was learned that a A total of 177,848 Cubans arrived in the United States by land between the 1st. October 2021 (beginning of the current fiscal year) and the end of July 2022, according to a report issued this Tuesday by the Department of Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

published data by CBP indicate a new migratory record of Cubans to the United States. These figures exceed those forecast by analysts, who had estimated the arrival of some 150,000 migrants from the Island by the end of the fiscal year, which still has two months to go.

The current migratory wave already exceeds Mariel’sin 1980, and that of the rafters in 1994.

“It is irresponsible on the part of Biden and his entire administration not to deal with this issue. This is going to be worse than Mariel, worse than the entire impact of the 1980s, and simply doing nothing is not an option,” Núñez added.

“Although we are not a border state, we are feeling the impact [de la migración] and we are going to continue to feel it… And even if it is only a part of those numbers that have come across the border from Cuba, rest assured that where you want to go, the final point, is Florida, there is no doubt about that”, also the lieutenant governor said last Wednesday.

“Fleeing communism and tyranny to come to a state with the wealth of family and culture and being deported north by bus is cruel and wrong,” Fried said in a declaration Released this Saturday.

For his part, NBC journalist Marc Caputo pointed that it was “absolutely amazing” that a daughter of Cuban exiles said that her compatriots should be expelled from Miami.

With the plan so far outlined, DeSantis is following in the footsteps of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who has sent newly arrived migrants to Washington DC and New York.
