The Civil Defense of Bahia updated today (29) the numbers on the impact of heavy rains in the state’s municipalities. So far, 37,300 people are homeless (they have no housing) and 53,900 are homeless (cannot access their homes). 24 deaths and 434 injuries were recorded.
According to the state government, 141 municipalities were affected by the rains. Of the total, 132 are in emergency situations. 629,000 people were affected in some way by the floods.
According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the month of December 2021 is considered the wettest in 15 years. In Bahia, heavy rains were caused by the phenomenon of the Convergence Zone of the South Atlantic (ZCAS), which causes the permanence of clouds over a given area for up to four consecutive days.
