The biggest literary cultural event in Bahia, the International Literary Festival of Pelourinho (Flipelô), will be held this year between the 6th and 10th of August in the Historic Center of Salvador. Inspired by the International Literary Festival of Paraty (Flip), Flipelô has been taking place since 2017 and is organized by the Casa de Jorge Amado Foundation. Flipelô will be held between August 6th and 10th in Salvador

The party arose with the aim of preserving and value the memory of writer Jorge Amadothe culture and art of Bahia and encourage literature, especially among young people.

“Flipelô has established itself in the national calendar of literary festivals. Perhaps we are the biggest among them all with programming that is all free. We were embraced by the Pelourinho community, which helped build the party. Every year the audience from Bahia and other states increases. Last year, more than 250,000 people came to the Historic Center over the five days of the event,” said Angela Fraga, executive director of Fundação Casa de Jorge Amado, the cultural institution responsible for the event.

In the 2024 edition, the person honored by the event was the poet, singer, composer and father of Brazilian rock, Raul Seixas (1945-1989). This year, the name of the honoree has not yet been defined but, according to Angela Fraga, it will be “a person from Bahia and a friend of Jorge Amado”. The name is expected to be announced next month.
