Usually packed when she receives musical shows or during Carnival, Pelourinho was full last night (6) for something more unusual: a play.
Directed by Gil Vicente and inspired by the work of the author of soap operas and writer Dias Gomes (1922-1999), the musical The Well-Beloved Days: Life and Work of a Bahian author marked the opening of the Pelourinho International Literary Party, Flipelô, attracting a large audience to the Historic Center of Salvador.
“The great gimmick of Flipelô is that it transforms the heart of the city – which is the historic center – at the Carnival of Letters and Literature,” described the opening of the Pelourinho International Literary Party.
Curator of two Flipelô spaces: The Literary Village and the Childhood Space Mabel Velloso he said that the visitation was huge and the official and literary programming has not even begun.

Bahia’s largest literary cultural party, Flipelô takes place until Sunday (10) in about 150 public and private spaces of the Historic Center of Salvador. Arriving in its ninth edition, the event is even higher this year and the expectation of the organizers is that it exceeds the 250,000 people who participated last year.
There are nine editions and Flipelô is more than consecrated and more than embraced. This is this place of affection, even, ”Deco told BRAZIL AGENCYl.
“This year’s programming is rich, dialoguing with many literary genres, with many forms of writing and also dialoguing with various arts, because the dramaturgy is that, right? It ends up opening us for this range and makes it even more diverse.”
Public
Resident of Salvador and author of the books Maybe there is no child in heaven and Monica Go Dinnerthe 39-year-old writer David Boaventura visited Pelourinho on Wednesday night to watch the musical that opened Flipelô. In an interview with Brazil agencyhe said he will participate in the event this year in two ways: as a reader and also participating in a table in the parallel program of Flipelô.
“I think I’ll come here every day. Flipelô is wonderful. She is something that moves a lot [a cidade] And it is great to bring literature to a city where the arts are so strong. This highlights what needs to be highlighted, ”he said.
Professor Flávia Lima, 37, also from Salvador, accompanies Flipelô for the third time. For her, the literary party is a “great cultural exchange”.
“I’m in love with literature, so this is a time when the city is celebrating for us to honor the literary spaces. It is a time when the city opens to receive authors from other places and that we are not used to seeing, just reading. So this is a time to be close to the writers.”
Even before the event began, Flávia has already selected what she wants to enjoy the literary party. “I’ve done a draft of the things I want to see. On Friday, I want to see Elisama Santos and Lazaro Ramos. On Saturday, Lázaro Ramos, at another table. On Sunday, I want to see Sofia Oliveira, who is from Salvador, but is living now in Sao Paulo.”
It is not just the residents of Salvador who intend to accompany this literary carnival in Pelourinho. “This is a great opportunity to interact with the culture of this territory, with the authors. It is a party that is very worth participating and celebrating,” said librarian Elisabete Veras, who came from Rio de Janeiro to enjoy Flipelô. “My purpose is to enjoy the party. I think this interaction that Flipelô brings to interact with authors and all in this small space, is a great possibility of being close to my authors.”
Diversity
Flipelô’s programming is very diverse, embracing other arts beyond literature. If at the opening had theater, on Sunday the party ends with an orchestra in tribute to Jorge Amado. But there are also soiree, debates, musical shows, exhibitions, book releases, workshops and even a gastronomic route. One of the highlights this year is the presence of international writers such as Adelino Timóteo and Gauz, who will be at Casa Motiva, in Vale do Dendê.
“This year we have more international writers and we are even more focused on Portuguese. We have a considerable amount of authors. In Espaço Mabel Velloso, which is the space for childhood, we think a lot in literature that puts the child as the protagonist of the stories. Elisama Santos and Emília Nunes, which is a very strong name here in Bahia, ”he said.
Another highlight is the Literary Village, installed in Largo Tereza Batista, with programming all focused on young public, including a contest cosplay [fantasias com referências de personagens da cultura pop].
“In the Literary Village we will have the first battle of live designs. There will be two days with drawing battle for the audience to have fun and vote. And we will also have the first discoted cosplay parade in the history of Flipelô, which takes place this Thursday (7),” Deco explained.
Flipelô is presented by the Ministry of Culture and the Casa de Jorge Amado Foundation and takes place until Sunday (10), with entirely free programming. More information about the party can be obtained in the website.
