About 34,000 people went through the 23rd edition of the Paraty Literary Fair (Flip), whose author was honored Paulo Leminski and ended on Sunday (3). The number, according to the organization of the literary party, represents a 10% increase over last year’s public. 
The opening of the event, on Wednesday (30), had Arnaldo Antunes, friend and artistic partner of Leminski, telling stories and reading excerpts of his works on the main stage.
“Leminski was a link between culture and counterculture. Always libertarian in form and content,” said Arnaldo Antunes at the time. Considered one of the great names of Brazilian poetry of the twentieth century, Leminski (Curitiba, 1944-1989), was also essayist, biographer, musician, publicist, black belt judoka and translator of authors such as Samuel Beckett, James Joyce and Petrônio.

The daughters of the consecrated poet, Estrela and Áurea Ruiz Leminski, shared some of their stories and perspectives on their father’s works during participation in various FLIP activities. The author’s former partner, with whom he was 20 years old, poet Alice Ruiz was also one of the highlights of the main programming.

Estrela told about the family’s work so that Leminski’s work could continue to expand, reaching more people and reaching a space “that he has always deserved and that he always struggled a lot to be.”
“The backstage [após a morte] This great writer is a work management made with great love for three women who lived with him and who think daily what can be done for this guy to be better known, ”he explained.
For Estrela, who became a writer, songwriter and poet, this tribute to his father was a moment of great emotion.
“It’s like a movie in my head, because I can’t not think about it at home producing. And, being a daughter, besides a very affective place, there is a place to see this work growing,” he told the Brazil agency.
“When he left, he was an important poet for Curitiba. Over time, he was becoming a reference from Paraná. Today, he is already a great writer from Brazil. [homenagem da] Flip, I’m sure he’s one of the international references. He will be one of the names [lembrados]when people think of Brazil, ”he said.
Estrela brought to the Flip audience a little of the family stories through the novel when innocence died, active at the House of Culture, in which her mother Alice Ruiz read some excerpts. The literary work, which the author calls “fantastic biography”, refers to the four grandparents she did not know, mixing historical research and fiction.
“I base myself on my family tree, so I’m talking about the grandparents I did not know and also a whole trajectory of immigrants. I speak of my father’s ancestors, so, somehow, I am also talking about where everything came from. In the chapters, the question of nomadism and awakening, a lot about Curitiba, and they always permeated the whole work of my father too,” he said.
President of the Paulo Leminski Institute, Áurea was on the program, speaking from the point of view of cultural production and about the management of the father’s work.

“We have been working so much so that his literary work is always available to the public, not only at the level of scope and distribution, but also that they are editions that arouse interest in people,” he told the Brazil agencyemphasizing that there is a care with the graphic and visual part of the works.
Among the challenges in the management of Leminski’s work, Áurea pointed out the work of “presenting himself within a new interface, because today has social networks, and other forms of dissemination that did not exist before,” he said.
She added that there is an effort to keep up with these trends and for the public to continue interacting with Leminski’s work.
Inspiration
Sitting in the Casa Flip+Motiva audience, Áurea was thrilled while reading the tale here of the border, read by her author, the gaucho teacher Carolina Panta, who addresses the loss of her father and builds an emotional crossing led by an old car and a silent road, inspired by Leminski’s work.
“My tale talks about the loss of a father and the way they leave continue to us. A silent presence, the gestures of those who stay,” said Carolina, winner of the 1st edition of the Flip+Motiva House contest.
In all, 300 short stories were evaluated, all inspired by the verse “that every trip/is made of departure only”, extracted from the poem V, travelingby Paulo Leminski.
Aurea recalled that of all literary genres, the tale was the least projection throughout his father’s career. However, he stressed that the genre is in two very important moments of Leminski’s artistic trajectory, at the beginning and end.
“One of the first texts he wrote was Descartes with lenses, just a tale that went through a contest and, by a mistake of the jurors, was in second place,” he said, taking laughs from the audience.
“He was so angry and outraged, he did not accept this response from the jurors and decided to write a novel, which is the catatau, [a partir da ideia do conto]. Catatau is undoubtedly the work Magna, the emblematic work he left us, ”he said.
At the other end of Leminski’s trajectory, is the book Fabulous enjoymenta posthumous publication that brings together tales published in the Nicholas newspaperfrom Paraná.
“The dropper, he was putting tales inside this newspaper, and one day he said: I will do an organization and I want this book to leave,” he said.
However, the plan was slow to materialize. Aurea said that the original tales were lost twice, but were found among the materials of a publisher, in a moment of almost bankruptcy.
“They found in the trash practically. The originals were found in the middle of a newspapers that had been dismissed,” recalled the poet’s daughter.
“Inside the tale, it starts and ends. It’s beautiful to see that, we see that things are interconnected and it’s wonderful to see the result of what you do,” he said, turning to the stage where Carolina Panta was.
Balance
With the traditional 20 tables, another extra table, the 23rd Flip main program brought together 36 authors, among emerging names and veteran, Brazilian and foreign voices. Among the tables, the organization reported that the biggest public hits were the participation of Gregorio Duvivier, Ilan Pappe, Marina Silva, Nei Lopes and Rosa Montero.
Flipinha, Flipzona, Flipduca and Flip+programming were also scheduled.
This year, the number of Flip partner houses increased from 29 to 35, offering four days of programming with important names, such as Conceição Evaristo, Ana Maria Gonçalves, Jamil Chad and Jean Willys, who also attracted a large audience on these feast days.
On the left bank of the Perequê-Açu River, the open square promoted a meeting between more than 140 authors, editorial collectives and independent publishers with local collectives from Paraty and Costa Verde.
PURNED TABLES

Faced with a full and attentive auditorium, he explained in depth and clarity as “Zionism became a classic case of settlement colonialism.”
“The difference between colonialists and settlement colonialists is that colonialists want to explore the native population, but settlement colonialists want to get rid of the local population, eliminating them,” he said.
The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, brought together thousands of people at the table most viewed of the edition, both in the Flip Youtube broadcast and in the party auditoriums. The minister spoke about the struggle for the preservation of the environment and devastation policies in the current political context.
“Environmental licensing is the main vertebra of environmental protection in Brazil. I can’t see how we will be able to achieve the CO² emission reduction goals if licensing is mutilated and disfigured, as it is in the PL [do licenciamento]as it was approved in Congress, ”lamented the minister about the Bill 2.159/21which deals with the rules of environmental licensing.
The stage of the matrix auditorium received the sambista and intellectual Nei Lopes, at the Senhora Liberdade table. In a conversation with Luiz Antonio Simas, table mediator and longtime partner of the author, Nei Lopes spoke about his trajectory, stories and learning as a researcher and as a sambista.
“Samba really is a culture, it is a complete thing. There is a whole Brazil that owes extremely Africanity and I made a commitment to my ancestry,” he said.
