Madrid.- Flightsand Air Europa from Havana (Cuba) to Madrid will require a technical refueling stop in the Dominican Republic starting this Tuesday and until Friday, and the planned schedules will be affected due to the lack of fuel at the airport in the Cuban capital.
“Due to the lack of fuel at the José Martí International Airport, if you travel from Havana to Madrid on February 10, 11 and 12, we inform you that, although our operations are confirmed, the flights will have some adjustments and a technical refueling stop will be necessary in Santo Domingo,” the Spanish airline explained this Monday.
Likewise, Air Europa has regretted the inconveniences that this situation beyond the company’s control may cause.
For its part, Iberia has activated fare flexibility so that customers with tickets to Cuba already issued can make voluntary changes to their trip.
The Spanish company has also detailed that, at this time, there is no confirmation that this situation will lead to modifications or cancellations of the operation between Madrid and Cuba, and has assured that it permanently monitors the evolution of the situation.
The Cuban Government has warned international airlines that operate on the island that as of this Monday the country will run out of aviation fuel due to the United States oil siege, as confirmed by EFE with two sources.
Cuba has been going through a deep energy crisis since mid-2024, but the oil blockade imposed by the Government of USA Since last January it has been paralyzing the economy and triggering social unrest.
The Government of Cuba last week announced a very tough package of emergency measures to try to survive without oil from abroad, when the island barely produces a third of its energy needs.
